    Lija is the third of the Three Villages — and the one most people in Malta will tell you is the most beautiful. The streets are extremely narrow, the gardens visible over the high walls of old houses are extraordinary, and the annual festa fireworks display is, without genuine exaggeration, one of the most spectacular in a country that takes its fireworks more seriously than almost anywhere else.
