Republic Street and Merchants Street are the main arteries for daily shopping, cafés, and pharmacies. Is-Suq tal-Belt (the city's restored market hall) covers fresh food, deli items, and some of the island's better lunch spots. The Manoel Theatre, MUŻA national gallery, and St John's Co-Cathedral are all on foot.
Valletta is Malta's central bus terminus — every route on the island starts or ends here. The Barrakka Lift connects the fortifications to the Grand Harbour waterfront. The Sliema Ferry runs regularly from the waterfront. Inside the city, everything is within walking distance.
